Olympic Games 2008 Beijing

In August 2008, the People's Republic of China plan to host the Olympic games in Beijing amongst heavy criticism from around the world.

Centre on Housing Rights & Evictions estimate 2.5_million Beijing residents will be force evicted from their homes in preparation for the Olympics. Parts of the city are so polluted, it is questioned whether many of the events can take place.

China's government type is defined as a communist state, but shows all the traits of a murderous military dictatorship. A country where the government kills members of the opposition and sells their organs on the black market for the highest price.

China's government is renound for its horrendous history of torture, oppression, corruption and violence. After the mass murder of over two million Tibetans, the Chinese communist occupation has lasted in Tibet for over 57 years .

It is estimated that China makes in excess of $2 billion a year from its prolific international arms trade. To name a few, China sells weapons to Iran, Zimbabwe, in Sudan fueling conflicts in Darfur and Chad and in impoverished Burma where the military regime has ruled for over 45 years. Chinese-made 'Norinco pistols' are exported to countries such as Australia, Malaysia, Thailand and particularly South Africa, where they are commonly used for robbery, rape and other crimes.

Chinese President: Hu Jintao
(President of the People's Republic of China)
Age 64.
In power since 2002

Rated No. 4 in the list of 'The World's Worst Dictators'.

Under Hu Jintao, China has seen some of the worst human rights violations among them torture, forced abortions, forced labour, detention of religious groups, government corruption and restrictions on speech and the media. Last year, citizens were executed for such non-violent crimes such as bribery and stealing oil.

This website's simple purpose is to highlight the hypocrisy of hosting the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the moral implications it brings to the democratic world.

According to the Olympic Charter, "..established by Pierre de Coubertin, the goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practised without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play."

So where actually is the spirit of fair play and how does all this contribute to building a peaceful and better world?

Obviously the answer is, there is no fair play and using the money made from weapons of war to fund the Olympics does not build a better or more peaceful world. It only adds to more conflict, poverty and bloodshed.
Don't let the Beijing Olympics slogan 'One World, One Dream', become a nightmare reality.
